Breakfast at Satchmo Cafe, North Perth

2016-10-28_satchmocafe-02

Satchmo Cafe is a little hidden gem in North Perth. It’s been on my to-eat list for a little while now but I didn’t have an excuse to check it out until the Sunday just past. As my friend and I had separate commitments after mid morning, we decided on an early  breakfast catch up before the Sunday brunch crowd hit. If I wasn’t looking for the cafe, I would have easily missed it! Given it was early in the morning, there were plenty of parking spots out the front which is a lovely bonus.

It is one of the few cafes in Perth that I’ve come across serving bagels, and done well I might add. I had only recently learned that bagels are actually of Jewish origins. It now makes sense why bagels are so widespread and popular in cities like New York. I can’t say I’ve really tried traditional Jewish food before so a few of the items on the menu sounded interesting. No matter where I looked though, I gravitated towards the bagels! I really enjoyed the bagels from Manchester Press in Melbourne so I was keen to try the bagels from this Jewish cafe.

I settled on the Satchmo Bagel. It contained corned beef, roasted tomato, gruyere cheese, pickles and ranch dressing. The beef was a little on the chewy side but it was a tasty combination of flavours. My long mac was a much needed and welcome pick-me-up. My friend had the Blueberry Cheese Blintzes. It looked so pretty!

By 10.30am the cafe was getting busy with the weekend crowd. On my way out of the cafe, I noticed there was a band setting up to entertain patrons with some live music. It’s fantastic to see this laid back cafe vibe in Perth, one of the many reasons I love this little city. I learned that Satchmo also serves dinner and has live jazz music Friday to Sunday nights. I’m definately keen to try out some classic Jewish classic dishes while enjoying some live music next time .

Thanks for stopping by today.
