Shooting for Reflections – A Fuji X Aus Competition

Perth, City of Lights, after sunset

The last Fuji X Aus group competition challenge brief was reflections. We had 2 weeks to shoot and submit a photo. The grand prize was the NiSi Filters 100mm Starter Kit. An amazing prize to die for! I wasn’t a hundred percent happy with the shot I submitted, but given the time constraints I had and the stormy Perth weather, I really went out for a couple of hours one afternoon when the weather wasn’t too bad to do some creative shooting. Most of my favourite photos I shot from that session was shared on a previous blog post. However in this blog posts I wanted to share the shots that I tried to take that fit in with the “reflections” theme.

Shooting Sunset Colours at South Perth Foreshore

Yesterday was the first day in few weeks that we’ve had good weather in Perth on the weekend. I headed out to do some solo shooting with the intention of shooting reflections for a photo competition. I was almost joined by a fellow Fuji X Aus Perth shooter. While I didn’t manage to get any decent shots of reflections, I did have a fun time experimenting with my Hoya 10 Stop ND filter. I shot with the Fujifilm X-T10 and the fujinon 18-55mm f2.8-4 lens. My trusty combination when I’m doing any landscape shooting. The 10 stop ND filter allowed me to take Long exposures up to a couple of minutes which meant I could see the cloud and light movements. I shot from when the light was still in the sky to after the sunset when the lights lit up in the city. Despite the freezing cold hands (should have brought my gloves!) I was pretty happy with some of the long exposure shots I got.

Brookfield Winter Lights Festival 2018

Perth's Brookfield Winter Lights 2018

I’m back from my two week trip to Europe, back from settling back into the routine of life. Which means I’m back from my blogging hiatus. I had a lovely European summer over in Santorini, Bulgaria and Budapest. It was a mix of relaxing, exploring the city and spending time with friends (Since i was over in Bulgaria for a friend’s wedding). A great mix of activities, and not my usual holiday itinerary. I also had an awesome time using the Fujifilm X-T20 and Fujinon 23mm F2 (thanks to Fujifilm Australia for the loan). That was the combination in my hands most of the time while I was travelling. More on that in a future post.

Fuji X Aus Perth Photowalk, June 2018

Walking around Fremantle, Fuji X Aus photowalk

I had a great time meeting up with our (small) group of Perth Fuji X Aus photographers down in Fremantle on the weekend. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon to be walking around Fremantle. We met up at the entrance of Fremantle Markets and spent a bit of time catching up with fellow photographers and meeting new ones. I always find it so enjoyable getting to chat to others about photography and what we shoot. As always we can count on Fujifilm Australia to send in some cool merchandise to our awesome Perth Reps.

Persimmon Festival, Western Australia

2018 Persimmon Festival

Back in May, Raeburn Orchards in the hills hosted it first ever official Persimmon Festival. It was a beautiful sunny autumn day. The bright orange leaves contrasted perfectly against the blue sky. While it was advertised as a persimmon festival, the orchard also grew plums, nectarines, apricots, pears, apples and many more. The orchard was filled people picnicking, photographing each other and photographing the autumn colours. These are some of my favourite shots from the few hours we spent walking around.
