Dosukoi Ramen, Fremantle Markets

Most ramen-lovers in Perth will likely be familiar with Dosukoi noodle shop located inside Fremantle markets. It’s been around since 2007 and it was probably one of the first few ramen shops in Perth before the ramen craze took off! It doesn’t seat many people however you won’t need to wait long for your ramen as the service is quick and people tend to be in and out of there quickly. They’re only open on Fridays to Sundays, so it’s definitely a weekend kind of activity.

A few weekends ago we were in Fremantle and decided to try it for ourselves. I love trying the “original” ramen when I’m trying a new joint for the first time. It was hearty and hot bowl of soup, very comforting for what was a chilly spring day.

I was out with my favourite lens, the Fujinon 35mm f1.4, and managed to capture some straight out of camera images using my Fujifilm X-T10. The base film simulation was classic chrome.

Urban Photography in Perth City, Western Australia

Since I stopped working in Perth city a few years ago, I’m not often in the city during the week. A few weeks ago, I was in the city for a work-related meeting on a Thursday afternoon. After the meeting I took the opportunity to hang around for an hour or so to do some late afternoon street photography. Fellow photographer Robert also managed to join me briefly towards the end of my walk. The 4.30pm to 5.30pm was pretty good. I loved the long shadows and warm light. As it was a Thursday afternoon, there weren’t a lot of people out and about in the City. It was mostly people rushing home after work. After 5.30pm the streets were relatively empty. I managed to get a few street scenes with people in it.

Photowalk around Curtin University

I haven’t been back to my Alma Mater Curtin University in many years. When a bunch of Fujifilm shooters decided to catch up for a casual photowalk at Curtin University, I was eager to join to see how much it has changed in the last 10 years. It was a Saturday afternoon, so the campus was like a ghost town.

Social distancing documentary project, part III

Grocery Shop - Japanese sauces

I’ve had a few weeks break from blogging but have carried on with taking photos around the house and when I’ve been out on walks and other daily life activities. These images were mostly taken back in April 2020 during the high of social distancing measures. During the month, in my free time on the weekend, there was a lot of home cooking, weekend walks grocery shopping.

Social isolation documentary project, Part II

Perth city from a far
Perth city from a far

As many of us spend so much of our time at home these days due to COVID-19, cooking and baking has taken off! I’ve been enjoying researching recipes and watching YouTube videos of chefs showing people how to many simple meals at home. I’m spending much of my non-work time either grocery shopping or at learning to cook a new dish or two on the weekend and also some photo editing my backlog of photos. To try to squeeze in some actual physical activity since gyms have been closed, I’ve tried to walk to do my grocery shopping or do some in-home yoga and exercises. I’m not a particularly good cook but I have enjoyed trying a range of more time consuming dishes like making dumplings and lasagne. On my walks, I have also tried to support local cafes by buying takeaway coffee and food.
