Godafoss and Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall, Iceland

Aldeyjarfoss waterfall in Iceland was one of my favourite waterfalls we visited. It was a bit out of the way, at the edge of the Icelandic highlands. It also required us to cross a F road to get there. F roads generally considered more challenging to drive on and require a 4×4 rental car which thankfully we had. This meant we almost had the whole place to ourselves. The only other people there were a small group of photographers on a photo tour. We knew we were in good company if photo tours take photographers there!

Godafoss waterfall is one of the very popular waterfalls to visit just off the Iceland ring road in the Myvatn district. There is the East and West bank that you can visit. We decided to go to both sides to get a different view of the falls. We even walked down to the base of the falls and took some shots from there. At 30 metres wide and 12 metres high, it’s pretty impressive as far as waterfalls go.

We ended our day at Akureyri, Iceland’s second largest city. It marked the mid way point of our 2 week road trip around the island. We decided to treat ourselves to a hot meal at a local American style burger joint.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Janice
