Hiking Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains

Wentworth Falls, Blue Mountains

Continuing on with my series of photo essays from my Sydney trip last year. Today’s photo essay is part two of my day trip to the Blue Mountains. Wentworth Falls is probably the most well known waterfall and nature walk in the Blue Mountains National Park. It is a three-tiered waterfall in Jamison Valley, around 187 metres high.

Leura Garage lunch

After a quick lunch at Leura Garage in small country town of Leura, we headed to the start of Wentworth Falls track to begin our hike. While it’s a fairly easy and well paved walk, expect a lot of steps! Some very steep steps. We decended around 200 steps to the cliff-edge Fletchers Lookout and marvelled at Wentworth Falls. While it’s not the most impressive waterfall in the world, it is quintessentially Australia. It’s an example of the great Australian landscape and nature. As it was a very windy day, it was impressive to see the water actually blowing upwards or sideways (testament to the strength of the wind). I felt like I was being blown away at parts of the walk. Unfortunately I didn’t have a wide angle lens to really capture all three-tiers of the waterfall in full.

We spent a couple of hours hiking down and then back up again to the carpark. Along the way admiring the nature around us. If there is only time for one walk or hike when you visit the Blue Mountains, I would definitely recommend Wentworth Falls. Thanks for stopping by today.

J.
