New kid on the block, Blacksmith in Mt Lawley

Blacksmith, Mt Lawley

Blacksmith is the new kid on the Mt Lawley food scene. It’s located along Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley. The cafe is large, with plenty of seats. They have bucked the minimalistic trend and gone with rustic look. Having a kids playpen at the back is a nice touch, making it a family friendly place for parents.

I has a difficult time deciding what to order. There were plenty of breakfast options on the menu but nothing really stood out to me. I settled on the Blacksmith Pan ($19). It was what you would typically expect, slow cooked beans, chorizo, ricotta and coddled eggs, with a side of toast.

Blacksmith uses Toby’s estate beans. I ordered my usual flat white coffee ($4).

It’s great to see Perth bursting with new cafes and restaurants. It gives us consumers with plenty of choices and encourage existing players to be better. Good on Blacksmith for coming into the food scene and try to offer a family friendly alternative. The food and coffee are what I would consider “Perth prices”. Expect to spend $20-$25 for food and drinks per person. While the food was fine, it didn’t really stand out to me given the price. Until I see a more enticing and interesting menu, I’ll be hardpressed to return for another meal. I do look forward to seeing what they get up to in the future.

Thanks for stopping by today.

J.

While it’s a new kid, the food on offer does seem a bit bland. Hopefully they step into their stride and try something fun and exciting!
