Given that one of my “dream jobs” was to be an architect, I’ve been meaning to check out Perth Open House. Every year when Perth Open House comes around, I always seem to have other plans. This year I made an intentional effort to find out which weekend it would fall on and made sure I made time for it. If you didn’t already know, Perth Open House occurs on a weekend in November, where private spaces such as people’s houses and iconic buildings are opened up to the public to explore. This year, there were over 90 destinations on the list. Many of which were located around Perth and Northbridge. West Perth and Leederville also had some great spaces.
In the next few blog posts, I’ll be sharing photos of some of my favourite places around Perth. I would say the most enjoyable spaces I went to were definitely the beautiful live-in homes. We started our Saturday morning in North Perth, checking out Union Street Residence, North Perth House, Dolce Lane Residence and North Perth Bungalow. We took a break in between for a quick lunch at the near by Saturday market, the nitro brew from Stomping Ground was the perfect drink to quench my thirst given that it was such a hot day.
After exploring North Perth, we spent a couple of hours around Perth Cultural Centre. While we were waiting for the backstage tour of the State Theatre Centre of WA, we swung by the Pip & Pop exhibition at PICA. The exhibition was colourful and whimsical. The backstage tour of the State Theatre Centre was pretty cool, and the tour guide was informative and entertaining. Hopefully I’ll find a show to watch at the theatre in the near future to check out the inside of Heath Ledge Theatre.
