Shooting Sunset Colours at South Perth Foreshore

Yesterday was the first day in few weeks that we’ve had good weather in Perth on the weekend. I headed out to do some solo shooting with the intention of shooting reflections for a photo competition. I was almost joined by a fellow Fuji X Aus Perth shooter. While I didn’t manage to get any decent shots of reflections, I did have a fun time experimenting with my Hoya 10 Stop ND filter. I shot with the Fujifilm X-T10 and the fujinon 18-55mm f2.8-4 lens. My trusty combination when I’m doing any landscape shooting. The 10 stop ND filter allowed me to take Long exposures up to a couple of minutes which meant I could see the cloud and light movements. I shot from when the light was still in the sky to after the sunset when the lights lit up in the city. Despite the freezing cold hands (should have brought my gloves!) I was pretty happy with some of the long exposure shots I got.

Sights around Lake Myvatn, Iceland, Part I

Continuing on with my roadtrip around Iceland. After an awesome night of northern lights, we got up for a day of exploring the sights around Lake Myvatn. There are lots of natural wonders around Lake Myvatn and lots of walking trails. The shot above and below are panoramic shots of Viti Crater. The walk to the top where you get a view of the crater lake is fairly short and steep. You get a pretty good view of your surrounding from the top landing though. In the distance you can see the Krafla Power Plant which is a geothermal powerplant.

Aurora Borealis by Mývatn Lake, Iceland, Take Two

When I was in Iceland last year and got a glimpse of the spectacular Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), I couldn’t help but do a quick edit of one of my shots on my phone and posted it straight to my blog. It was definitely a bucketlist item that I was excited to share with family and friends. Now that I’ve culled, edited and curated all my photos from my Iceland trip. I wanted to share a few of my favourite Aurora Borealis photos. These are long exposure photos taken on a tripod on a mostly cloudless night, one of the few nights where the sky was clear enough and we were far north enough to watch the lights dancing in the sky.

Brookfield Winter Lights Festival 2018

Perth's Brookfield Winter Lights 2018

I’m back from my two week trip to Europe, back from settling back into the routine of life. Which means I’m back from my blogging hiatus. I had a lovely European summer over in Santorini, Bulgaria and Budapest. It was a mix of relaxing, exploring the city and spending time with friends (Since i was over in Bulgaria for a friend’s wedding). A great mix of activities, and not my usual holiday itinerary. I also had an awesome time using the Fujifilm X-T20 and Fujinon 23mm F2 (thanks to Fujifilm Australia for the loan). That was the combination in my hands most of the time while I was travelling. More on that in a future post.

Golden hour exploring Húsavík, Iceland

fisherman at work at husavik

After a big day of three waterfalls and enjoying autumn colours at Asbyrgi Canyon, we drove onwards to the next town. Husavik is the famous whale-watching capital of Iceland. Since it was quite late in the afternoon, we didn’t manage to do any whale-watching. Instead we walked around the quiet little town and enjoying the golden hour sunlight. These are some of my favourite photos from our walk around town. The golden hour light was spectacular.
