Panorama of Svínafellsjökull Glacier Lake, Iceland

Svínafellsjökull Glacier lagoon

In my previous post I shared photos from my walk to Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue. It’s hard to capture the vastness of the lake and the glacier at Svínafellsjökull. I decided at the time it might be a good idea to take several overlapping photos and stitching it into a panorama to show the vastness of the area. This was all done in-house in Lightroom. It was a simple process and I think it turned out pretty well. The clouds were clearing a little bit and the sun was peaking out behind the clouds. I really like the orange tinge that reflected into the lake.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Svínafellsjökull Glacier Tongue, Iceland

Svínafellsjökull Glacier lagoon

There are many glacier tongues originating from Vatnajökull glacier. Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue is one of the most accessible one. After walking back from Svartifoss, we took the path towards Svínafellsjökull glacier. The walk was pretty flat and easy. We passed little waterfalls along the way and beautiful green Iceland moss. At the end of our walk, we got pretty close to the glaciers and could see the ice breaking apart from the glacier in the lagoon. The sight was pretty eerie though with the black sand and what feels like an infinite amount of ice. Since it was a rainy day, the crowds were pretty thin. We felt like we had the place all to ourselves.

Glaciers, ice-capped mountains and Svartifoss, Iceland

Vatnajökull Glacier

Iceland’s Ring Road (Route 1) encircles the entire island. I found the south east drive to be one of the most scenic drives in Iceland. the landscape is ever changing and grand. From green mountains to giant glacier capped mountains. Vatnajokull is the largest glacier in Iceland. No matter where we were in the area, we would always be driving past the glacier and it made for some pretty awesome photo pitstops. We made our way to Skaftafell National Park on a pretty rainy day. But that didn’t stop us from making the long walk to Svartifoss waterfall. The hike/walk was fairly easy to the waterfall. It reminded me a little bit of my trip to Canada during autumn all those years ago, the beautiful yellow and orange coloured foliage.

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon and Fagrifoss Waterfall, Iceland

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon and Fagrifoss Waterfall

The morning we visited Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon was pouring with rain and the sky was gloomly. Nonetheless we preserved. Even in the rain the canyon looked awesome. the green, the flowing river. We pretty had the whole area to ourselves. There’s also a little known waterfall Fagrifoss in the area as well. If we could fly a drone, we would have gotten some awesome shots, but alas rain. Even though it’s not a very popular tourist spot since it’s a little out of the way, I really liked it for that very reason! You feel like you have all the space and greenery to yourself.

Vik and Reynishverfi’s Black Sand Beach, Iceland

Vik Church

In my previous blog post, I posted up a HDR shot of the Church in Vik and also the town of Vik. This blog post focuses on the Church, the town of Vik and also the black sand beach. I managed to capture a panorama of the town of Vik by climbing up a hill and shooting from a higher vantage point. After our visit to Vik, we made our way to the very popular (and sometimes deadly) black sand beach. The beach is famous for it’s black sand, basalt columns and giant rock formations in the sea. Unfortunately it has also been known to take lives as the waves along the beach can get quite large at times. There were plenty of warning to tourist to not turn your back to the beach. We spent a bit of time here as the sun was setting, taking long exposure photos and walking along the beach. There was even a fashion shoot going on at the time.
