The Three Sisters Lookout in the Blue Mountains

Continuing on with my series of photo essays from my Sydney trip last year. Today’s photo essay is part one of my day trip to the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains is less than two hours drive west of Sydney. It’s an easy and well worth day trip if you are visiting Sydney for a few days. To make the most of our day, we headed out the door fairly early in the morning. I previously posted a HDR composite photo of the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains. In this blog post, you’ll find images showcasing the Blue Mountains in it’s full glory from Echo Point.

Our first stop in the Blue Mountains was the little tourist town of Katoomba, which the lookout for the Three Sisters is located. It was an insanely windy day that day, which made for a chilly day. From this lookout point, you can see the vast expanse of the Blue Mountains. It’s a stunning place.

Our lovely tourist guides, the Sydney locals 🙂

To fully experience the Blue Mountains we decided to visit Scenic World. We rode on the world’s steepest incline passenger railway, descending at an incline of 52 degrees through a cliff-side tunnel. At the bottom, we walked among the trees through the rainforest in Jamison Valley. The final part of the Scenic World experience was taking a cable car ride across the valley. That was truly the best part. Seeing the Blue Mountains from above, the Katoomba Falls, the Three Sisters, Orphan Rock and Mt Solitary. It definitely made me appreciate the vast landscape and nature that Australia has to offer.

I mentioned in a previous post that I enjoy images in black and white. In the case of landscapes, I feel black and white adds to the grandeur of the scene and the moment, stripping away the distraction of colour. The next photo essay will focus on our windy hike down Wentworth Falls. Thanks for stopping by today.

J.
